About this site

SchoolWalkAndRideTimes.com shows walk, drive, and school bus times to public and private schools, computed for every residential neighborhood in the districts we cover.

How the times are computed

Walk and drive times come from actual road network data (OpenStreetMap), routed with OSRM from the center of each neighborhood area to each nearby school. They're not estimates or straight-line distances — they follow real streets and sidewalks.

The school bus time is not a real bus route. It's a rough estimate (computed drive time × a fixed multiplier) shown only until enough parents have reported their actual ride time for that spot and school. Once a spot has at least 3 parent reports, we show the real reported range instead, clearly labeled as parent-reported and kept separate from the computed estimate.

Where attendance zone data comes from

"Likely assigned school" comes from one of two sources, always labeled: the federal School Attendance Boundary Survey (a 2015-16 dataset, so it can be out of date for districts that have since redrawn boundaries) or a district's own published GIS boundaries where we could find them. Some districts have neither — in those cases we still show computed times to every school, just without a "likely assigned" label. Attendance zones change; always confirm with your district before making a decision based on this.

Privacy

We never share your address or exact coordinates with anyone — and we never even see them ourselves. Your address is converted to a small neighborhood area (roughly a few blocks across) in your browser, and only that neighborhood identifier is ever sent to us. See the full Privacy Policy for details.
